A House Tour: Helen's Cottage

My long time friend over at Homeslice posted this house tour a few days ago, reminding me of how impressed I was with the cottage when I first saw it posted on The Names Agency. Though I must agree with Jenna that the home isn't entirely my cup of tea in the sense of its' livability, I do appreciate the thought in the architectural details (beams, posts, and use of space), creativity in the placement of the art, delightful mix of modern and rustic, and the killer marble island. Plus, it has real wood floors. I long for real wood floors.

It even makes ceiling fans look good. Why do I have a stink eye when it comes to ceiling fans?

And hey, and here's a well-deserved treat for you - a cover by The Civil Wars of a familiar song. They got theatrics.

Ett hus utan gränser

With my extensive knowledge of foreign languages, I deduced that this home is in Sweden. Also, with the help of an online translator I figured out that this is the home of two empty nesters looking for less space. They built this one story, one interior wall home together to "facilitate their every day lives".

Thanks, Hus & Hem

I'm quite taken by the charm in the home, the collections that date back to their entire lives together, and the simple details in the raw finishes. You go Sweden, you go.

Adventures of Dusting

I used to think I wanted a home filled with collections and things I love. I wanted my guests to have a very clear idea of who I was as soon as they walked in my home and found themselves surrounded by my life. Crown moulding, framed pictures, hand-me-down furniture, fabrics, books, and details, details, details.

How naive I was.

Today, I was a good daughter to my mother and decided to dust her entire home. Repeat: her entire home. Well, at least the parts I could reach, so my 5'3"ish self actually dusted about 1/8 of the house.

I dusted around the crown moulding, framed pictures, hand-me-down furniture, fabrics, books, and details, details, details.

Since then I have come to my senses. I now think something like this would better suit me. One quick swoosh of a rag and you're done. Easy breezy.
